During one of our classes with our trainer, she had us bring all of our dogs to the edge of a shallow pool. She wished to see if any type of of the dogs were terrified of water. None of the ones in the class were, so I don’t recall much of a conversation of exactly how to assist your pet dog if he’s terrified of water.
There are dogs that like water, as well as dogs that dislike it. Baxter’s somewhere in between.
With the extraordinary warm we’ve been having this summertime in Ontario, I’m choosing our hiking tracks based on exactly how much water is available. one of our much-loved routes has two big ponds. As soon as we get near the water, Baxter wades ideal in as well as starts slurping. He goes deep sufficient to soak his chest, however no farther. If he starts to float, he heads for shallower ground.
Often, there are other dogs at the ponds, swimming with their owners or fetching sticks. Baxter shows no rate of interest in joining them.
At house on the farm, we’ve verified that he can really swim. He’s fallen in our primary pond a few times, as well as when he ended up over his head in one more pond when he chased a duck. She paddled away as Baxter paddled back to the shore.
Even a duck is not reward sufficient to swim.
I’m curious whether my hubby or I would be incentive. We’ve not had an chance to go swimming as a family. The warm continues, though, so there may be a possibility yet this summer.
